about

It was a dark and eerily quiet night. The streets were empty, and only the sound of life support systems was audible. A deadly pathogen was spreading around in Neo Amsterdam. The last time this happened was exactly 47 years ago.

Most people were preparing for a self-induced deep sleep that was to last for over 30 days, which was estimated to be enough time to stop the transmission of the disease. The government provided everyone with life support machines and instructions on how to enter deep sleep. People had a choice of dream entertainment in the form of music and interactive game experiences. While it was not mandatory for everyone to join this state of hibernation, it was perceived as the safest choice and the easiest way to pass the time.

Sitting at her balcony, she gazed at the empty streets and ruminated if things would ever return to the way they were. She was one of the few people who opted not to hibernate. She didn't trust her government to take over her dreams and was suspicious that they ever really planned to wake people up. As no one was allowed to be out in the streets, she planned to spend the next period doing what she enjoys most, producing music.

Mass inertia on this scale has never happened to humanity before. She didn't want any part of it. As she was preparing to go to bed, she heard a loud bang on the door. She rushed to pick up her bag and quickly entered the tunnels below the floor. While she was running away, she heard how they were searching her apartment. She knew better than to trust them! Running deeply into the underground, she met a group of people who made a contingency plan in case this happened.

They knew it was highly possible they would never see the light of day again, but at least they were in control, and as long as that was true, hope remained.
