In the age of neoliberal capitalism when every aspect of our existence needs to have a rational function, purpose and value, music starts to be seen as a tool or mere application for our everyday routines. There is music for better working efficiency, music to calm you down after the exhausting job, music to take drugs and dance to, music for meditation and so-called spiritual growth etc.

“Optimism” is an attempt to confront that paradigm and liberate the music from the dictatorship of current consumption models and strict functionality. This is reached by adopting and deconstructing the elements of modern electronic music and focusing on what lies beneath them: sparse polymetric beats instead of dance grooves, textures instead of timbres, mutating and morphing loops instead of melodic lines, rhizomatic structures instead of linear compositions.

The result is an emotionally diverse musical journey that constantly shifts away from listener’s expectations while still striving to grab the attention. Free for interpretations, “Optimism” raises the question, is there a chance to escape the utilitarianism these days?
